I tought this event wil be the best event on whole season so far. It was great event, Rally Finland organization had made a great work to do one of the best event on this years WRC series. So many fans out at the stages. Those stages with all jumps are so great for drivers also. I couldn´t dream anything else than just go out there and enjoy.
Everything started very well on Thursday when we made fastest time on Laajavuori stage. All those people was so excited of my driving. I really wanted to do my best and time was good. Friday morning we were on target, just to stay on lead or to be near to lead, then push on afternoon stages. Everything started to go wrong on SS5 where we started to have trouble with electrics of the car. Service team did a huge amount of work to get car fixed for afternoon stages but unfortunately we got 4 minutes and then second penalty when leaving from the service on mid day Friday.
However I reset my mind and there was nothing else to do than just to go,out and drive as well as I can. Lankamaa and Myhinpaa were my favourite stages and especially Lankamaa went very well. We were 8th fastest and beat several World Rally cars, including Kimi, Juha Kankkunen and Matthew Wilson. On Myhinpää stage I went slightly wide on one corner and right rear wheel damaged. We had already puncture on Lankamaa stage so we didn´t had anymore any tyre left to change to replace the damaged tyre. We still had some possibilities to reach some good points from the event, we just didn´t had luck at all this time.
We restarted to rally on Saturday morning. If anything is not working then it is not working… On one jump where I last year went flat out with WRC car, I tought it is totally safe to do same with Fiesta also. Fiesta didn´t jump so well for some reason, and landed on left front wheel and I broke the transmission oil-cooler. Very unlucky and maybe I was suffering a little bit of lack of testing on these unique conditions. I didn´t know the limits of the car as well as I would have needed to know.
In Finland people says what does not kill makes you stronger. This was one of those weekend what will make us stronger! I can´t wait to get back to behind of steering wheel and go racing again.
See you at Japan, I love sushi and Japanise lifestyle.
Best regards
Jari
